Alejandra Castro

Costa Rican. Lawyer with a Master’s degree in Spanish Literature. She has a specialization in Intellectual Property Law from Michigan University, and a Master’s degree in IT Law and a Ph.D. in Constitutional Law with an emphasis in Information Technologies from Universidad Complutense de Madrid.

She is head of the Intellectual Property, Biotechnology & Information Technology Law Department at law firm Arias & Muñoz and vice-president of the Chamber of Information Technology (CAMTIC) and the Costa Rican Audiovisual Industry Chamber (CAIAC).

Alejandra is a World Bank consultant on public health access and pharmaceutical law.

She served as vice-president for the Costa Rican BAR Association, Director of Corporate Affairs at Pfizer Central America & Caribbean and managing partner of the Intellectual Property practice area at ACTIVE-LEX.

In 2011, she was appointed by WIPO as consultant to develop a National IP Strategy for Costa Rica and Trinidad & Tobago.

She is the author of the book Derecho de Autor y Nuevas Tecnologías published by UNED and has authored numerous specialized articles and publications.

In addition to more than 15 years’ experience teaching at different universities in Costa Rica, she is the founder of the Master’s program in Intellectual Property at UNED.
